Apple has confirmed this evening that it is dropping out of SXSW this year. The company had planned to debut three new Apple TV+ originals at the festival this year, but those events have been canceled. Despite pressure to cancel the event, SXSW organizers announced that it will go on as planned. Apple is rolling out the third watchOS 3.2.2 beta for developer testing on Apple Watch. Digitimes has a mixed track record of reliability with regard to Apple rumors, but its latest report gels with expectations. The report claims Apple is preparing new 13 inch and 15 inch MacBooks to launch in the summer, by July. Although the publication does not say this, it indicates that new MacBook Pros are on the horizon perhaps debuting at WWDC, Apple’s developer conference. Given Intel’s CPU roadmap, Apple laptops featuring the new Skylake processors are due....

We told you in December that Apple was being fined $1.2 million by Italian anti-trust authorities for “misleading consumers” with AppleCare warranties. At the time, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato claimed Apple was failing to properly inform consumers of a two-year guarantee mandatory by Italian Consumer Code and European Union law. Earlier this week we reported that the newly released iOS 9.3 update was bricking older iOS devices, including the iPad 2. Now, Apple has confirmed that there are issues with the iOS 9.3 update for older iOS devices and that it is pulling the update for select devices. In a statement issued to iMore, Apple explained that updating older devices, including the iPhone 5s and earlier and the iPad Air and earlier, can require customers to enter the Apple ID and password used to originally set up the device....

Apple Pay is picking up a huge wave of newly added banks and credit unions across the United States to support the mobile payment service. Following its launch in France earlier today, Apple Pay is now live in Hong Kong, as well. This rollout was previously teased by Apple at WWDC last month, but now users in Hong Kong can officially take advantage of the company’s mobile payment solution. In Hong Kong, Apple Pay is supported with Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards issued by Bank of China, DBS Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Hang Seng Bank....

This morning, Apple has released a pair of OS X Yosemite beta updates. The first is OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 8 for registered developers. That update is available via the Mac App Store. The Cupertino-based company has also released OS X Yosemite Public Beta 3, which is the third release for end users that are part of Apple’s AppleSeed customer software seeding program. That update is, too, available on the Mac App Store for applicable users....

[Update 1:00 PM EST: iOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 and tvOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 are now available.] One day after releasing the first iOS 12.1.2 beta to developers, Apple will make iOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 available to install on iPhone and iPad for free. iOS 12.1.2 is focused on squashing lingering bugs from iOS 12 to iOS 12.1.1 which was officially released last week. The first iOS 12.1.2 public beta should be available shortly....

We learned last fall that Apple plans to bring Apple Pay to China by partnering with UnionPay. Code found within iOS pointed to Apple preparing its mobile payment service for China while MarketWatch reported Apple was working on a deal with the institution. Several months later, however, MarketWatch now reports that Apple is “struggling with its relationship with UnionPay,” adding that Apple has not yet established an agreement it hoped to reach by March....

Public transit users in San Francisco now have a new way to pay. The Clipper card, which is used for most public transit systems in San Francisco, now supports Apple Pay with Express Transit Mode. This was first announced back in February, and it’s now available to everyone. The Clipper card is a reloadable smart card used for transit fare payment in the San Francisco Bay Area. It gives access to buses, rails, ferries, and trains from 24 different transit agencies, which includes BART and Muni....

As the competition in the podcast industry continues to heat up, Apple has made a new partnership to help its younger users find appropriate content. Teaming up with Common Sense Media will see new kid podcast recommendations in the Apple Podcast app as well as online. Apple has long been leading the podcast industry. Just last week, we heard one of the first reports that predicts Spotify will end up overtaking Apple this year when it comes to monthly podcast listenership....

Apple continues to share insights from its collection of health studies. Last week, the company shared insights from a hearing study based on iPhone and Apple Watch data. Today, the Apple Women’s Health Study team at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health released a preliminary study update about women and their menstrual symptoms. Medical research on menstruation has often been limited to studies of smaller sizes, which are not representative of the broader population....

Two weeks after releasing the first beta, Apple today has released the second developer beta of iOS 9.3.2 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 9.3.2 is a much smaller update compared to the recent significant iOS 9.3 update that brought about features such as Night Shift and Touch ID notes. The developer notes for the first iOS 9.3.2 beta were pretty standard, mentioning developer-specific issues and workarounds for Dictionary, iBooks, Safari, and Simulator....

HP’s Touchstone wireless charging technology as shown with the Pre The Wall Street Journal follows up on their earlier report about the iPhone 5, once again calling for a thinner and lighter device with an 8 megapixel camera – but with a design akin to the iPhone 4. Tonight’s new report claims that Apple is already at working on a major iPhone revamp for the product’s sixth iteration. Apple has just released the first developers betas of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, watchOS 6, macOS 10.15 and tvOS 13. The updates are available through the developer portal, for members of the Apple Developer Program. Following its event earlier today, Apple this evening has released iTunes 12.7 with a variety of enhancements to the public. The update brings new features such as new social capabilities for Apple Music, support for iOS 11 devices, and more. The update simplifies iTunes with a stronger focus on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Gone are categories for apps, iTunes U, Internet Radio, Ringtones, and Books on Windows.
