Apple has released the first public beta version of macOS 10.12.4 which includes Night Shift for Mac. macOS 10.12.4 public beta 1 follows two days after the first developer version of the upcoming software update. After years of considering removing Game Center from iOS, it appears Apple has decided to officially pull it as evidenced with today’s first iOS 10 beta. As this is a first beta, there is a possibility we could see the application’s return before this fall when iOS 10 is officially released to the public. As stock apps have hit the App Store, and users can now delete most of them on iOS 10, it’s entirely possible Apple falls back to allowing Game Center as an App Store download....

Fire up your Apple TV folks, there is a new update waiting for you. Not to leave the Apple TV out in the cold after a huge week with other iOS devices, the hardworking group in Cupertino has released its latest update to the second- and third-generation Apple TVs. Surprisingly still not called ‘iOS 6’, Apple released build 10A406e to the masses with a slew of new features. The Apple TV now features shared photo streams, and the ability to switch between iTunes accounts, re-order icons on the second page by holding the select button on the remote, and send audio from the Apple TV to Airplay-enabled speakers and devices....

Apple has just released the first developer beta of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 following the public release of iOS 14.0 this week. It’s uncertain what has changed in this update, but probably Apple is working on improvements and some new features. Apple has just released Xcode 11.3.1 for developers — the tool used to create iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS apps. This week’s update features overall improvements and bug fixes, including enhancements to compile Swift files. According to Apple, Xcode 11.3.1 addresses a bug in the storyboard canvas that could cause Xcode to crash and fixes an issue that would cause Xcode to time out waiting for Simulator.app to become ready when multiple copies of Xcode are installed....

Apple this week added over 30 more banks and credit unions to its list of those that support Apple Pay in the US. It also added an additional five countries that now support the service in Australia. Apple is rolling out the fourth watchOS 3.1.1 beta for developers testing the pre-release software update for Apple Watch. watchOS 3.1.1 includes support for new Unicode 9.0 emoji as well as the ability to change skin tones when picking certain emoji characters. Apple is out with a new update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch today, the official iOS 9.1 release. For most users, a collection of new emoji characters including a taco, unicorn, and yes, a middle finger is the most notable new feature within the update. Apple has also tweaked its three planetary wallpapers and developer support for Live Photos as well as improvements to the capture experience. Apple has officially announced the availability of WatchKit, the software tools that developers will use for creating software for the Apple Watch coming in 2015. The company revealed last month that the SDK, or software development kit, would be released sometime this month. Apple says WatchKit enables developers to “create innovative WatchKit apps, actionable notifications and Glances, for timely information accessible by an easy, quick look at Apple Watch.” Additionally, resources within WatchKit reveal the screen resolutions for both Apple Watch sizes....

Apple Pay revenue hasn’t gotten much attention so far. The most valuable role Apple Pay plays for the Cupertino company is further lock-in to the ecosystem. Once you’ve experienced the convenience of Apple Watch payments in particular, and know the security you get from the use of Apple Pay on any device, it’s not something you’ll want to give up. (Sure, there’s Google Pay and Samsung Pay too, but it still adds friction to switching platforms....

Apple has shared the latest progress with Apple Pay rolling out to major US retailers. Today’s news includes Target, Taco Bell, Speedway, and more as the latest businesses to accept Apple’s payment platform. Apple announced the news this morning in a Newsroom post: We reported last year that Target was testing Apple Pay support in San Francisco in November. Apple says Target is rolling out support for its payment platform now and will be functional in all of its US stores in the “coming weeks....

Apple just posted its 2012 Proxy Statement for investors. Within, we find that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was awarded almost $400 million in 2011, while Steve Jobs was paid his $1 a year salary. Mr. Forstall’s annualized base salary was increased to $700,000 —from $600,000 in 2010— to match the then-current base salaries of his peers on the executive team. Mr. Cue had a base salary of $444,000 during 2011, the lowest base salary out of the executive team....
