Bloomberg reports this evening that Apple has signed another publisher to its upcoming premium Apple News subscription service. According to the report, Apple has inked a deal with Vox to be a part of the service. Vox is of course published by Vox Media, which also owns The Verge, SBNation, and Eater. Those other three properties will not be available via the service. Currently, Vox Media doesn’t offer subscription content, but CEO Jim Bankoff said such a payment model was in the works for this year....

Alongside a release of Xcode 6.2 with WatchKit tools for the upcoming Apple Watch, Apple today posted its iOS 8.2 beta for developers. The release, build 12D436, follows the release of iOS 8.1.1 to all users yesterday with fixes and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S users. The iOS 8.2 beta allows developers to start testing their apps for the upcoming Apple Watch wearable, but doesn’t appear to include any other notable features (at least not in Apple’s release notes)....

In addition to iOS 14.6, Apple today is also rolling out watchOS 7.5 for Apple Watch users. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple has acquired the photo technology startup SnappyLabs. SnappyLabs is a one-man development team known for creating the SnappyCam app. As the name implies, the big feature of SnappyCam is its ability to take full-resolution images at 20 to 30 frames per second, which is considerably faster than the native Camera app on iOS. The app was sold for $1 on the App Store and was relatively popular, reaching #1 on the paid app chart in nine countries....

In its on-going quest to re-create the way that people think about viewing television, Apple has proposed a TV ad skipping system for an upcoming service, according to reporter Jessica Lessin. As reported several times over the past couple of years, Apple has been seeking to bring a live (or on-demand) TV service to an upcoming product. However, it is unclear if this will be an entirely new display set or just an enhanced box....

After the success of last year’s Shot on iPhone 6 ad campaign, taking one of the top prizes at the Cannes Grand Prix festival, Apple is relaunching the campaign to highlight photos taken with the iPhone 6s/Plus, reports Time. Apple today released the second iOS 9.2 beta for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to registered developers. iOS 9.2 beta 2 follows the initial iOS 9.2 beta release just one week ago. The update is available over-the-air through the Settings app for developers already testing the release. The prior release contained few changes including extension support on Safari View Controller. The release notes only highlight bug fixes and improvements. iOS 9....

Following an extensive period of betas for developers, Apple has publicly released OS X 10.8.5. The update is available from the Mac App Store Software’s Update section and is recommended for all users on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4. The build number for the public release is 12F37, which is a single build over the most recent beta. Apple has also issued RAW Camera Compatibility updates and a new version of Safari....

Apple Pay in Australia today has expanded to support Eftpos cards from ANZ Bank. The move was announced in a press release from Eftpos, while Apple has also updated the Australian version of its Apple Pay website to indicate the new support for Eftpos cards. Eftpos touts that this partnership with Apple will bring in-store Apple Pay support to 1.6 million addition ANZ Access cardholders. Eftpos is the most used debit card network in Australia and lack of support for the technology has been cited as one of the biggest hindrances for Apple Pay in the country....

Update: The WSJ echoes the report, adding that $1B will just be the starting point, with possible increases based on demand, and stating that it will be mirrored by a similar bond issue in Australia. It says that in all Apple is aiming to raise $3-4B in the Asia Pacific region. If an unconfirmed Reuters report is correct, Apple could be tapping Taiwan for more than just components and assembly – it is also looking to raise capital from the island....

Alongside the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, today also marks the first day of availability for the new iPad Air. To celebrate the latest iPad Air, Apple has shared a new video on YouTube promoting the device’s features and color selection. The video first premiered during the iPad Air’s announcement event. Apple has released an updated build of the OS X 10.10.3 beta for both developers and public beta testers. The latest build is the same for both: 14D113C. Developers, however, also have access to Yosemite Recovery Update 3.0. Apple Pay has been growing at a brisk pace recently, and Tim Cook is making a point to emphasize that fact. During Apple’s Q4 2019 earnings call today, Cook touted that revenue and transactions for Apple Pay doubled year-over-year as the service continues to outpace PayPal. Following an analyst this morning saying Apple may not release a 5G iPhone until 2021, a report from Fast Company this evening sheds more light on Apple’s modem efforts. The report details the company’s increasingly strained relationship with Intel, and the growth of its in-house modem team. According to the report, Apple has between 1,000 and 2,000 engineers working on modem chips for future iPhone. The company has reportedly recruited engineers from both Intel and Qualcomm....

Apple began unleashing iAds across the world last week, with ads from the service reported to begin appearing on iOS devices outside of the USA. Now a report tells us Apple’s more than happy to explore partnerships in some key geographies to build up its service. That’s because Apple and The Dentsu Group today announced a partnership to expand Apple’s iAd mobile advertising network to Japan in early 2011. Dentsu will be responsible for the selling and creative execution of iAds in Japan, and Apple will host, target and deliver the iAds to its iPhone and iPod touch users....

One week after the last public beta and 9 days after the last developer beta, Apple has released OS X 10.11.4 beta 5 for both developers and public beta testers. The update is said to improve Mac stability, compatibility, and security. Focus areas mentioned include iBooks, Messages, Notes, and Photos. A brief report in The Korea Economic Daily claims that Apple is working with LG on a new dual camera module ‘which enables 3D photographing.’ LG already supplies the dual-camera module used in the iPhone 7 Plus. The LG Innotek system is said to be destined for one or more of next year’s iPhone models, but the report is unclear what 3D applications Apple might have in mind.
