Apple and Epic Games have been fighting in court after the popular game Fortnite was removed from the App Store in August 2020, but there’s still a lot to come. Both companies are expected to face each other in a trial expected to begin on May 3, and Apple continues to strengthen its arguments to defend the App Store business model. Following the findings of fact and conclusions of law filed by Apple with the court last month, the company once again takes issue with Epic’s accusations that Apple uses monopolistic practices to prevent competition on its platforms....

CNET looked at some of the recent talks between Apple and the record labels recording Apple’s plans for a streaming, radio-like service. According to the report, Apple is working to strike deals with both the Warner and Universal Music groups within the week. Sony would still be one of the major holdouts. While recent reports have pinned the service’s launch for late 2013, CNET said Apple still wants to have a summer launch take place....

We’ve all read stories about safety nets being placed under manufacturing plant windows so employees can’t commit suicide, as well as incredibly long shifts. Also, there were articles about n-hexane, a chemical used to clean up screens, causing serious damage to the health of workers. It can cause nerve damage and paralysis. Also, in May last year, an explosion happened at a factory manufacturing Apple products, killing and injuring employees, as described in this New York Times report....

Following the release of the sixth developer seed yesterday, Apple has pushed out an update for users who are part of the OS X beta testing program. This fourth beta introduces the same changes that were added to the developer branch yesterday. Among the changes users will find a new General icon in the System Preferences app and a new blue wallpaper. The update comes with the build number 15A243d, compared to 15A244d for yesterday’s developer version....

Adele has been turned down by Apple as the company is refusing to sell her new album in its stores. Whilst that may sound surprising, it turns out Apple actually declined from stocking physical CD album copies of her album in Apple retail stores as per Adele’s representative’s request (according to The Daily Mail). Apple declining to stock physical media … shocking right? For the company that revolutionized digital music and released a streaming music service with much fanfare earlier in the year, it’s quite hilarious that a top artist’s team even tried such a request....

Apple has registered several new Apple Watch model identifiers in the Eurasian economic database, as spotted by Consomac. Apple is expected to unveil the new watches at its iPhone event in September. The ‘Series 4’ is listed across a total of six model identifiers, and is noted as shipping with watchOS 5. This filings suggests a slimming down of the lineup compared to what Apples offers with Apple Watch Series 3....

As promised, Apple has just released the iOS 8.4 software update featuring an all-new Music app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to the public after testing with developers since mid-April. While it includes smaller changes throughout, the update primarily delivers an overhauled Music app with Apple Music (notice the new icon), its brand new subscription music streaming service, and Beats 1, its 24/7 live radio station that launches today....

Apple has released the second iOS 9.3 preview beta for testers ahead of the big feature update’s general release. The release follows the first preview release of iOS 9.3 for developers, public beta testers, and a 1.1 update for developers that included an installation fix. iOS 9.3 includes plenty of changes including a new feature called Night Shift, Touch ID and secure passwords for Notes, new 3D Touch Quick Actions and peek and pop gestures for iPhone 6s users, and much more....

Apple is planning another expansion for its data center facilities in Reno with the Reno Gazette-Journal reporting the company recently submitted plans for additional data center buildings. The expansion brings the total number of buildings on Apple’s site up to nine: While Apple’s main site continues to grow, the report also notes that plans for a downtown Reno location— required for Apple to receive around $80m in tax breaks— haven’t progressed....

The White House shared earlier this year that Apple is a participant in President Obama’s ConnectED education program focused on bringing Internet access and technology to schools in need, and today Apple has provided a micro site profiling its effort in the program. While it was already known that Apple has pledged $100 million to provide iPads, MacBooks, and other products toward the program for schools across the United States, Apple has shared that Apple ConnectED grants are being received by a total of 114 different schools across the country with these schools spread out across 29 states....

Apple has just begun rolling out iOS 10.3.1 for iPhones and iPads. With Apple’s iOS 10.3 release we saw a lack of support for 32-bit devices, but that’s changed with today’s update. iOS 10.3.1 brings back support for 32-bit devices and is available for the iPhone 5 and 5c. Release notes for this particular update are light, only noting bug fixes and security improvements. Today’s update follows Apple’s release of iOS 10....

Update: Apple Pay is now rolling out in Poland, according to Think Apple. Thus far, two banks are live with their support, but more are expected to come. Apple Pay is reportedly rolling out in Poland as early as tomorrow, June 19. Despite comments from Apple CEO Tim Cook last year about India remaining a lower priority than many other emerging markets, a report from Reuters today detailed how Apple is “aggressively pushing” the iPhone in India through payment plans and a new marketing campaign. Cook suggested last year that India wasn’t the biggest international focus for Apple and multi-layer distribution in the country “really adds to the cost of getting products to market....

Apple has reached deals for two new films as part of its ongoing original content efforts. According to a new report from Deadline, Apple has inked deals for a documentary called ‘The Elephant Queen’ and an animated film called ‘Wolfwalkers.’ First, Apple has acquired rights to the documentary ‘The Elephant Queen’ from Victoria Stone and Mark Deeble. The documentary is about Athena, an elephant who must lead her family on a search for food and water:...

It’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day today, May 17, and Apple is marking the occasion by highlighting its accessibility features on the apple.com homepage … Under the heading ‘technology is most powerful when it empowers everyone,’ the link points to the company’s accessibility microsite, introduced by a film. Apple has released the second iOS 11 public beta for the iPhone and iPad. As has been the case with previous public beta releases, this allows users who are not registered developers to test pre-release versions of iOS with new features for free. When it comes to stability and app compatibility, the same warnings apply to any pre-release software: apps might crash, battery life may be sub-optimal, and performance may be sluggish....

Apple today has released the sixth developer beta of macOS Catalina. This comes after Apple released the seventh developer beta of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, watchOS 6, and tvOS 13 last week. We’re less than one week out since Apple introduced the first iOS 12.4 developer beta for testing, and Apple appears to be ready to release iOS 12.4 beta 2. We also expect iOS 12.4 public beta 2 to be released today. iOS 12.4 beta doesn’t yet include any visible changes for users, but there are some under-the-hood changes to prepare iPhones and iPads for Apple Card, the new credit card coming from Apple later this summer....
