“Watch app for Tesla” is a popular app that lets users check useful information and send commands to a Tesla vehicle directly from an Apple Watch. However, the availability of this app may be threatened as Apple has been reinforcing its guidelines related to third-party APIs, which may require the developer to remove their app from the App Store. Update – August 28: Apple once again reached out to the developer and the company agreed to release the latest update of Watch app for Tesla on the App Store until this situation is thoroughly investigated....

[UPDATE 6/26: Apple has released a second iOS 11 beta 2 build labeled 15A5304j following 15A5304i last week. Apple has just announced a new iPod touch featuring an Apple A10 Fusion chip. The new iPod looks the same as the previous generation, with a 4-inch screen flanked by large bezels and a non-Touch ID physical home button. In addition to the new chip, the device comes in a 256 GB model for the first time. The 2019 iPod touch is available to order online now at $199 for 32 GB storage, $299 for 128 GB and $399 for the 256 GB configuration....

In line with our report from earlier this week, Apple has released OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 via the Mac App Store. Apple today released a trio of OS X security updates for the Safari web browser, labeled 8.0.4, 7.1.4, and 6.2.4 for OS X Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion, respectively. The updates revolve around fixes for WebKit: The updates are available from the Mac App Store’s Software Update tab. An update is not yet available for OS X 10.10.3, which includes Safari version 8.0.5. Impact: Inconsistent user interface may prevent users from discerning a phishing attack Description: A user interface inconsistency existed in Safari that allowed an attacker to misrepresent the URL....

A new report from Bloomberg today offers new details on Apple’s ongoing efforts to build a self-driving electric car. According to the report, Apple has a “small team” working on Apple Car, but a release is likely at least five to seven years away. The Apple Car team has also added even more former Tesla executives, the report says. The report explains: Work on the Apple Car project has been delayed this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the report says....

One of the hot news items from Apple’s March event was Apple News+. Apple News+ is a $9.99 per month subscription that includes access to 300 magazines and a handful of popular newspapers. Apple News+ got me thinking about an Apple Podcasts+ service to help drive revenue for podcasts. Zac Hall had this to say about Apple News+ I’m not currently a big magazine reader, but I do see appeal in carefully written and selected stories captured in monthly issues as a contrast to the infinite stream of the online publishing world....

Apple officially ranks number one in retail sales per square foot, according to a new study published by retail analysis firm RetailSails that analyzed 160+ top U.S.-based retailers. As you can see from the graphic above (full graphic below), Apple is almost two times ahead of their closest competitor (Tiffany & Co), and almost five times ahead of the closest technology related retailer (GameStop). What’s most impressive is the fact Apple has much less experience in retail (ten years as of May) than most of other retailers included in the study....

Update: Apple has also released tvOS 12.4.1, watchOS 5.3.1, and a new build of macOS Mojave 10.14.6. Apple today has released iOS 12.4.1 to the public. This release comes after a vulnerability was exposed last week that made it possible to jailbreak many recent iPhone models running iOS 12.4. A jailbreak for iOS 12.4 was publicly released last week, as we reported. The release came after it was discovered that Apple accidentally unpatched a vulnerability that was originally fixed in iOS 12....

Apple has finally released OS X 10.9.5 for users on OS X Mavericks. While many of today’s software updates from the company are iOS 8 compatibility updates, 10.9.5 features only a handful of fixes and updates, including more reliable VPN connections when using a USB smart card and improved SMB server support. Safari 7.0.6 is also listed in the change notes, but that update was released to the public last month....

Macrumors notes that the boarded up Fifth Avenue Apple Store now reveals plans to improve the appearance of the cube by using “bigger, seamless” panes of glass. The number of panes will drop from 90 to just 15 (3 per side). The upgrade reportedly costs $6 million. We’d be very surprised if the renovation isn’t complete for the October iPhone 5 launch. Apple is also expected to have its Grand Central location, just 15 or so blocks south, open for the holidays and is also doing an upgrade to its Soho Store....

[Update 11/7: Apple has released the second public beta for iOS 11.2 as well as the second public beta for tvOS 11.2 and macOS 10.13.2.] Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 11.2 for iPhone and iPad. iOS 11.2 beta 2 for iPhone X was released on Friday afternoon to add compatibility with the new device, and today’s release is available for other iPhones and iPads. iPhone X users won’t see today’s update, however, as the first iOS 11....

In agreement with legal process, Apple has now paid the first tranche of the $15bn total sum that the EU demands Apple pay Ireland. Whilst Ireland and Apple will object to the ruling in court, the EU believes Apple took advantage of an illegal low tax rate deal. The first 1.5 billion euro payment will be deposited into an escrow account that keeps hold of the money until a final legal judgement is reached....

Not only did the iPod (Rasputin) Classic not die as predicted (again) today, Apple is wrapping the ‘old man of the iPods’ up with its Apple Care Plus plans along with the more popular iPod touch. According to the updated iPod support page, Apple customers can now purchase an additional year of coverage for the iPods as well as phone support beyond 90 days and most importantly, two incidents of accidental damage coverage (+$29 service fee) for $59 here....

Apple has pushed out the third preview of the upcoming OS X 10.11, marketed under the name “El Capitan,” to developers today. The previous build was released on June 23rd, putting this release at just over the standard of two weeks between seeds. Previously it was reported that Apple would make El Capitan available to its retail employees to test. As new features and changes are discovered in this beta build, we’ll keep this post updated with a running list of additions....

A new report from BuzzFeed News highlights how the “Siri Suggested Websites” feature in Safari can surface “debunked conspiracies, shock videos, and false information.” Essentially, when users would type things such as “QAnon” or “Pizzagate” into the Safari search bar, the browser would suggest related “low-quality information.” The Siri Suggested Websites feature in Safari surfaces content from websites such as YouTube and Wikipedia based on the search term being typed into the search bar....

Earlier today we reported that Apple was preparing to introduce new enhancements to AppleCare, Apple IDs, and a redesign to its online support sites in addition to a number of other support related improvements. Now, Apple appears to have just flipped the switch on its redesign for at least the Apple Support Communities forums where users can go to discuss problems and troubleshoot products through Apple’s website. The updated Apple Support Communities design has a much cleaner and more streamlined look and feel and extends through the entire Support Communities site including individual forum pages....

The latest macOS beta release is now available for developers with a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. Fixes have arrived for VoiceOver, AppKit, full-screen issues, and more while there are several new boot options included in this build. Apple released the second developer beta of macOS 11.1 today and it comes with a number of fixes and improvements. Resolved issues included in this release are for VoiceOver, App Kit, Mac Catalyst, a full-screen mode problem with iOS apps, and zoom-to-fit....

The vibrant George Floyd mural surrounding Apple Pioneer Place in Portland, Oregon will live on under the care of nonprofit Don’t Shoot PDX. Apple donated the community artwork in hopes of preserving the sprit of 2020’s social and racial justice protests. Plywood barricades at Apple’s downtown Portland store gave a voice to the community this past summer, when muralist Emma Berger painted a portrait of George Floyd and the words “I can’t breathe....

According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple recently acquired the domain name iCloud.net, one of the last remaining pieces related to iCloud that the company itself did not own. While it’s unclear when Apple made the purchase, the social network previously linked to that domain will shut down by the end of this month. This isn’t a super notable move on Apple’s part, but it marks the competition of the company’s quest to obtain all of the major web addresses associated with iCloud....
