Apple Pay is continuing to expand internationally. The service recently launched in Poland and Norway and is constantly adding new banks, including in the US where it supports a ton of banks and credit unions. This week, Apple Pay is picking up two new banks in Brazil. Launched in Brazil on April 4th after being promised by Tim Cook during Apple’s Q1 earnings call, Apple Pay is only available for clients of Itaú with MasterCard or Visa credit cards....

Delays between Apple announcing a product and shipping it to customers have more than doubled under Tim Cook’s watch, according to a WSJ analysis. The averages bear out the paper’s claim, though also illustrate the rather small difference for a typical product launch … It notes that all three of the biggest completely new products launched since Cook became CEO were significantly delayed: the original Apple Watch, AirPods and the HomePod (though the Watch shipped within the promised timeframe)....

Apple appears to have recently started promoting some of its own stock iOS apps on the App Store for search terms that would have previously displayed results from third-party developers first. As noted by MacStories, when searching for terms such as “browser”, “web”, “SMS”, “Movies”, “cloud, “Siri”, “internet”, and others on the App Store, Apple is now promoting some of its own apps and services such as Safari, iTunes, Messages, iCloud, and Siri as the first results....

Apple has just released the first bug fix centric iOS 10.0.2 update today for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update includes fixes that should address issues where Lightning headphones would momentarily lose playback controls as well as other fixes. Today’s update focuses on three major bugs, with the first being the annoyance plaguing users who have moved to using Lightning headphones daily. While intermittent, headphones plugged into the Lightning port would lose playback controls from headphones causing more headaches than necessary....

Apple just released Safari 5.1.5 on its website and through Software Update, and it only contains a fix for a bug “that could affect website usability” when in 32-bit mode. The update follows a larger release earlier this month with Safari 5.1.4, which included a long list of Javascript, PDF, and HTML5 related security and performance improvements. In February, Apple rolled out Safari 5.2 for Lion to developers as part of the Mountain Lion preview....

Apple Pay has been gradually making its way across the globe. After debuting in Saudia Arabia and Czech Republic, the contactless service is now expected to launch in Austria tomorrow, Wednesday 24th. That’s according to The Standard newspaper in Austria at least. Apple Pay will be available on all Apple devices for Austrian customers, where the feature is supported. That means any iPhone, iPhone 6 or later, or Apple Watch, can pay at compatible merchant terminals at brick-and mortar stores....

Update: Many users are reporting that cellular functions and Touch ID are no longer working post update, so we would recommend holding off until further notice. Apple launched macOS Big Sur to the public on November 12 with version 11.0.1. Now a week later, Apple has released a new build of 11.0.1 with likely bug fixes and performance improvements, but apparently only for select users. Instead of debuting Big Sur with version 11, Apple launched the public release with 11.0.1 which gave it a chance to make some final updates and fixes. After 17 days of the release of watchOS 8 beta 1, Apple is finally releasing beta 2 of its upcoming Apple Watch software, currently only available for developers. Today’s build is 19R5286f. Digitimes reports that Apple has secured 60% of the “global touch panel capacity,” causing touch screen shortages for the rest of the industry. Apple’s big investment into displays comes on the heals of Apple’s 40 million iPads in 2011 goal. This also comes during Apple’s development of the next generation iPhones and new tablets from many other players in the industry. These shortages caused by Apple are surely not making other tablet makers like Motorola and Research in Motion happy....

Strategy Analytics is today out with its latest report covering the smart speaker market during the first quarter of 2018. The data shows that Apple shipped just over half a million HomePods during the quarter, locking in less than 10 percent in terms of marketshare… According to Strategy Analytics, Apple shipped 600,000 HomePods during the first quarter, which equates to 6 percent of the total smart speaker market. Google and Alibaba consolidated their number two and three rankings while Apple became the fourth largest smart speaker brand worldwide following the launch of the HomePod in February 2018....

As predicted, Apple just confirmed at its special iPad mini event that it would refresh the Mac mini lineups with upgraded internals. The new models will retain the same pricing as previous generation Mac minis, starting with $599 and $799 configurations and a third $999 server model. Specs for the new models line up with the specs we posted this morning, including the first quad-core Mac mini: 2.5 GHz dual-core i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard drive 2....

The Times of India reports that Apple is planning to re-introduce the 8 GB version of the iPhone 4 in India to combat its sluggish sales. The report states that the company hopes the even lower price of the device will help win back its share of the market, which is slipping away to competitors. The phone would be available at a lower price than before, reportedly around ₹15,000 (about $240)....

An Apple spokesperson listed several actions the company is taking in relation to its business in Russia. “We have taken a number of actions in response to the invasion. We have paused all product sales in Russia. Last week, we stopped all exports into our sales channel in the country. Apple Pay and other services have been limited. Apple has decided to pull its planned WWDC new Apple TV hardware announcement, according to a new claim. Apple planned to debut the new box at the June 8th kickoff keynote before making the decision to scrap the hardware and SDK introduction in mid-May, according to the new report: We’ve reported that Apple has been planning a redesigned Apple TV box with app functionality, Siri voice search, and a new remote control for sometime, but it appears those won’t be showcased until later, according to newspaper The New York Times....

A new report from Business Insider today reveals that after making its first stab at acquiring Leap Motion back in 2013, Apple may have made another offer between $30m-$50m for the augmented reality start up this year. Leap employees were reportedly celebrating this past spring when it seemed Apple was close to acquiring the company for as much as $50 million. Things were moving along and Apple even sent out some paperwork in official folders....

Apple is said to be planning to launch a subscription service for games. A report from Cheddar cites five anonymous sources that suggest Apple is talking to game developers to be part of a new subscription service. Similar to Netflix, users would pay a set fee for unlimited access to a selection of titles. Further details like pricing or availability were not stated. The talks apparently included Apple acting as a publisher for titles, which would see Apple talking a more hands-on approach in the release of new games....
