Apple has just released its eleventh annual Supplier Responsibility report, where it publishes details about how the manufacturers that make and assemble components for iPhone, iPad, Mac and all of Apple’s products treat their workers and the environment. In the 2016 report, Apple says that compliance with 60-hour maximum work week for employees has reached 98%, which is the highest ever. Apple suppliers have also reduced carbon emissions by 150,000 metric tons, the equivalent of taking 31,000 cars off the road for a year....

Apple TV+ made two appearances at New York Comic Con this year, with panels on Servant and For All Mankind. For Servant, Apple announced a launch date (November 28) and an advance look at the official trailer. The audience at the ‘For All Mankind’ panel got to see the first fifteen minutes of the first episode, and a panel interview with executive producer Ron Moore and lead cast. Unfortunately, the fifteen minute preview was not released publicly and video recording inside the venue was not allowed....

Apple’s annual developer conference is set to kick off at the beginning of next month. Now, in the lead up to WWDC 2017, Apple has started promoting a variety of developer community events that will be taking place during the week… In a post on its Developer blog, Apple announced that more events have been added to the schedule for WWDC week in San Jose. Under the “Beyond WWDC” branding, Apple is promoting events such as AltConf 2017, CocoaConf Next Door, The Loop Beard Bash, and much more....

Apple today is releasing the first developer beta of iOS 13.3.1 and iPadOS 13.3.1. This comes after the general release of iOS 13.3 last week, which included several new features for iPhone, iPad, and HomePod. iOS 13.3.1 focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements. Update: The first developer betas of macOS Catalina 10.15.3, iOS 13.3.1, iPadOS 13.3.1, and tvOS 13.3.1 are now available. watchOS 6.1.2 beta 1 is also now available....

Apple has released the iOS 10.3.3 software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements for all devices running iOS 10. iOS 10.3.3 release notes: While iOS 11 is currently in development and due out this fall, iOS 10.3.3 may be of the last software update to older hardware that won’t run iOS 11. iOS 11 is currently in both developer and public beta so users can test major new features like drag-and-drop on new iPads before the official release later this fall....

Apple has been steadily adding more banks to its list of those officially supported for Apple Pay, and today it adds yet another 50+ for users of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch-based payment service. The new additions include a mix of banks and credit unions across the US, but don’t bring any newly supported institutions to users internationally. Apple has already begun building and expanding its Maiden, North Carolina data site and according to new plans sent by Apple to Catawba County, the Cupertino-based company plans to add another 21,030-square-foot data center to it. According to the plans, Apple is planning to build a new $1.9 million data center that will house 11 rooms, t-boned to the existing 500,000-square-foot data center that’s already on the site reports Winston Salem Journal....

The new accommodations arrive as Apple prepares to enter its busiest product launch season of the year. After moving to weekly releases with beta 6, Apple has made watchOS 7 beta 7 available to developers today. The release of watchOS 7 beta for developers comes along with the public release of iOS 13.7 today that brings the new Exposure Notifications Express feature. Now that we’re getting further into the beta period, we’re seeing fewer user-facing changes with beta 7 and more under the hood bug and performance updates....

Apple Pay has now notched up ten countries as it goes live in Russia today. The country joins Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and U.S. in supporting Apple’s mobile wallet service. The launch was marked on Apple’s Russian website, though the company has yet to update the Apple Pay availability page of its U.S. site. Support in Russia is currently limited to one bank and one card type …...

A new Apple patent published today by the United States Patent and Trademark office (via AppleInsider) could show some of Apple’s future plans for bringing iOS to the car through its partnership with various car manufacturers. Earlier this year at WWDC, Apple showed off its new iOS in the Car feature that will bring enhanced iOS integration for apps such as Maps and Siri to select vehicles sometime next year. Today, Apple describes how it could also be doing some work on the touch panels that will control these new in-car features....

With the iPhone 6 bending controversy heating up and Apple PR masterfully debunking the non-issue earlier today, it should come as no surprise that Apple does a lot of durability testing on its new devices before shipping. However, the team responsible for that testing– Apple’s Product Design Structural Analysis team for iPhone and iPod– needs some help. Today the company posted a job listing seeking engineers to stress test new iPhones and iPods just as it responded to the controversy saying the problem was “extremely rare” during normal everyday use....

Apple is highlighting four artists who create with Apple Pencil on iPad Pro as the Urban Sketchers groups turns 10. Urban Sketchers is made up of artists around the world who meet in cities to draw on-location. The illustration above was created by the aptly named Rob Sketcherman of Hong Kong who has drawn exclusively with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil since it was released in 2015. Apple has quietly updated its CarPlay microsite which explains the feature to add CBS News Radio to its growing list of apps it grants CarPlay support to, but a bigger change also appears on the CarPlay site this morning. Apple is no longer promising CarPlay support from any automobile manufacturer this year as it has done since its debut in March. While there has been no shortage of CarPlay demoes and availability announcements, actually getting your hands on a model with CarPlay thus far has proven almost impossible....

Apple this evening has removed a handful of apps from the App Store that install root certificates of their own. By installing their own root certificate, the app developers could theoretically gain access to encrypted traffic from users. Among some of the apps being removed are a select number of ad blockers. The ad blockers that have been removed are ones that block content both in Safari and in other apps....

Apple today added over 20 additional banks and credit unions to its list of those that officially support Apple Pay. The new additions follow over 20 added a couple of weeks back for users in the U.S. and China. Today’s update includes 23 banks and credit unions in total for the US, and brings support for HSBC in Australia with both MasterCard and Visa credit cards supported. Apple typically adds support for new banks and credit unions every 2-3 weeks and keeps track of supported institutions for all regions where Apple Pay is available on its website....

Apple Pay has provided a solution to a problem that has beset online share trading for individuals: how to quickly and safely transfer money to their broker. That was tricky before for two reasons, explains brokerage firm TD Ameritrade, the first to accept fund transfer by Apple Pay … Reuters reports that the first problem was being forced to choose between speed and complexity. Apple has published an iOS 6 and fifth-generation iPod touch version of its iPod touch user guide to iBooks. The user guide goes over the important software and hardware details of the new iPod touch and its new operating system.
