Apple has refused compensation to an Australian woman whose face was burned when her Beats headphones exploded on board a plane. Apple said that third-party AAA batteries, bought separately by the woman, were the cause … Adelaide Now reports that the incident happened in February, with Apple subsequently investigating. A number of Beats wireless headphone models use AAA batteries. The brand of the batteries involved in this case is not known....

During Apple’s State of the Union and 15th annual Apple Design Awards, Apple explained that the App Store Review Guidelines would be receiving new updates this year. Currently on Apple’s own App Store Review Guidelines page there are two different guidelines listed, pre- and post- June 13,2016. Apple has decided to take these changes one step further into a partnership with Madefire. At the end of the Apple Design Award ceremony this year, Apple announced a collaboration with Madefire to make reading the newly updated guidelines easier....

Apple has released the fourth iOS 12 public beta for iPhone and iPad. The new version follows iOS 12 developer beta 5 which was released yesterday. The new version includes minimal changes including new tones within FaceTime, updates to the Stocks widget, and more. tvOS 12 public beta 4 and macOS Mojave public beta 4 are also available today. Apple’s public beta program allows users who are not registered developers to test pre-release versions of iOS, tvOS, and macOS with new features for free (and a few bugs)....

A new report from CNBC this weekend explores Apple’s growing investment in research and development. Apple reported its Q3 2019 earnings last Tuesday, revealing that its R&D spending has hit a new all-time high. Apple is planning to release a publicly available beta of the upcoming OS X Yosemite later this month, according to sources briefed on the plans. This release will mark the first time Apple has released a public beta of a new OS X version in over a decade. Apple released a Developer Preview of Yosemite following the software’s announcement at the June Worldwide Developers Conference, and the company has continued to release updates every two to three weeks since that time....

Earlier this week, Apple canceled the premiere of its original film The Banker starring Samuel L. Jackson. It was supposed to debut at the AFI Fest in LA on Nov. 21st, however, after hearing historical inaccuracy and sexual abuse allegations, Apple decided to hold off. A wide theatrical release was originally slated for December 6th with a debut on Apple TV+ after the new year, but now sources are saying those have been canceled as well (via Variety)....

Apple has announced that it is quadrupling its US iPhone recycling program by making it available through Best Buy stores throughout the country. The program will also be available through KPN stores in the Netherlands. Phones will be returned to Apple for recycling by its Daisy robots. Alongside macOS 10.12.6, Apple has released a minor update to iTunes for macOS today. iTunes 12.6.2 includes “minor app and performance improvements” according to release notes. The update is available through the Mac App Store now. Today Apple also released iOS 10.3.3 for iPhone and iPad, watchOS 3.2.3 for Apple Watch, and tvOS 10.2.2 for Apple TV for all users following several developer and public beta versions. The potential for AirTags and similar devices to be used to track and locate unsuspecting people raised privacy concerns when AirTags was first released. The small trackers rely on nearby Apple devices to anonymously crowdsource their location, making it possible for someone to place an AirTag in a car or bag and retain the ability to view its current location. AirTags will begin to beep every few minutes after they’ve been disconnected from the owner for an unspecified amount of time as a way to alert those nearby that the AirTag is present....

Apple today has released the first developer beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. The updates are rolling out now through the Apple Developer website where you can find a new configuration profile. Once you install the developer profile, the new release of the iOS 15 will be available to developers via an over-the-air update in the Settings app. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep checking, as it sometimes takes a few minutes to roll out to all registered developers....

Apple has officially released iOS 10.2.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10.2.1 is likely a bug fix and performance improvement release. The initial beta was released on December 14 with a second beta issued before the holiday break. Apple has released the third developer beta of iOS 11.2 for iPhone and iPad. The latest version comes one week after the second beta became available for all iPhones and iPads after first coming to iPhone X. Apple has also released the third developer beta versions of watchOS 4.2 for Apple Watch, tvOS 11.2 for Apple TV and Apple TV 4K, and macOS 10.13.2 for Mac. iOS 11.2 will likely include AirPlay 2 and Apple Pay Cash support in addition to SiriKit for HomePod which was detailed at the end of October....

Apple has just announced watchOS 7 with new watch faces, workout types, and sleep tracking. While developers can install watchOS 7 beta today, Apple has confirmed that a public beta release of watchOS will be available for the first time next month. Previously, watchOS beta versions were only available to developers, but now other users will be able to test new versions of watchOS before they are released to everyone....

Costco has announced that it now accepts Apple Pay at all of its US warehouse stores, and says that the payment method will be coming soon to its gas stations … The company told CNET that contactless terminals have been installed at both store checkouts and gas stations, but the latter are not yet in use. Costco was a notable Apple Pay holdout after 7-11 and CVS finally announced their own rollouts last month....

Alongside the release of OS X 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2 last week, Apple released Safari version 7.0.3 and 6.1.4. Apple has since released a minor bug fix to that version of iTunes, and today Apple has released a security update to Safari bringing the latest version to 7.0.4. Apple Pay Cash is now available in beta for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The new feature lets you send and receive payments using Apple Pay over iMessage as well as pay in stores with a new Apple Pay Cash virtual debit card. Apple Pay Cash will be available for all customers in the United States when iOS 11.2 and watchOS 4.2 are officially released, and developer and public beta testers can start using the feature today....
