Apple has reportedly changed its near-term plans for the Project Titan electric car project, moving away from the development of a vehicle for the time being. After Bob Mansfield took the helm in July, Apple changed its outlook for the team according to Bloomberg. Hundreds of employees have been let go or re-assigned with the remaining members focusing on development of a self-driving autonomous car platform. In the future, Apple may return to developing its own vehicle or could partner with an existing car manufacturer....

We expect iOS 12 will be released to all users about a week after the September 12 event, as the operating system will come preinstalled on the new iPhones that are almost certainly launching on the 21st. Today, Apple has started advertising to iOS 11 devices ahead of the release, with the Tips app sending alerts that highlight some of the changes. The exact tips displayed vary depending on region and device type....

Two weeks after releasing the first beta of OS X 10.10.5, Apple today has released beta 2 of the operating system to developers. Apple has released the latest versions of its iWork productivity suite today with 11.0 landing for the Pages, Numbers, and Keynote iOS and Mac apps. The new iOS builds feature support for precise editing controls, onscreen keyboards, the option to always open docs in edit mode, and more. Meanwhile, the new Mac versions include a new media browser, new AppleScript functionality, and more. Version 11 for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for both iOS and Mac should be available now for all users in the App Store....

Apple has pushed out a revised version of the recently released iOS 5.1.1. The original public build of iOS 5.1.1 is labeled build 9B206, while this new build is labeled 9B208 (direct download). This is only two builds newer, and probably represents a small fix in the software. Whatever Apple needed to fix was specific to the GSM iPhone 4 (iPhone 3,1) as no revised builds for other iOS devices have been released (perhaps yet)....

This morning, Apple released a slew of country-specific press releases on the Apple Newsroom. In September, Apple released similar data for the US, stating that the iOS app economy supported 2.1 million American jobs. In the UK, Apple says the App Store supports about 330,000 jobs, an increase of 10% compared to a year ago. Germany has another 250,000 jobs, as does France. The pandemic has caused so many businesses to transition to online commerce, and this is reflected in these studies....

After 3 RC builds being released over the previous weeks, Apple has officially released macOS Big Sur 11.2 for all users today. The release includes some important fixes for Bluetooth, external display, iCloud issues, and more. macOS Big Sur 11.2 is rolling out now and should appear in System Preferences > Software Update. Keep checking back if you don’t see the update right away. Users have been eager to see this update land as some notable issues with Bluetooth, external displays, iCloud, and the new ProRAW photos have been affecting many users....

As it’s done with past releases, Apple today released the open source code of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. The release comes after Apple made good on its promise to open source its Swift programming language last week. Apple will release the fifth developer beta of iOS 13.4 today. This update comes one week after the release of beta 4. iOS 13.4 includes new features like iCloud Drive folder sharing and much more. Update: The fifth betas of iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, tvOS 13.4, and macOS Catalina 10.15.4 are now available. No sign of watchOS 6.2 yet. A supply-chain report says that Apple will be using a new form of screen technology to make at least one of its 2019 iPhone models thinner and lighter — a trend Apple has bucked with recent flagship versions. The report says that Apple has decided to use touch-integrated flexible OLED panels, which have a different construction to current iPhone screens … Current screens use a separate touch-sensitive layer sitting on top of the display itself....

The Telegraph reported Apple would unveil an update to its AirPlay platform at its rumored Sept. 12 media event alongside the next-generation iPhone. Currently being referred to as “AirPlay Direct” internally, the updated platform will allow users to stream media from an iOS device to speakers without the need for Wi-Fi. Apple is working to streamline the Apple Pay Transit process for users, a new report suggests. Citing evidence found within iOS 12.3 code, the report explains that Apple is working is expanding the availability of the Apple Pay “Express Transit” feature to new card types. Tap Down Under explains that currently, Express Transit is limited to “stored value cards,” such as Suica. This is a card where you keep a certain amount of money on the card itself, and pre-load it with funds when you run out....

Apple has posted a new web page that is dedicated to answering frequently asked questions about the transition from MobileMe to Apple’s new iCloud service, which launches this fall (via TechCrunch). The webpage explains which services are staying with iCloud and which are going (shown in image above). While retailers and venues have steadily been rolling out Apple Pay support for buying goods in the real world, Apple Pay is possibly even more popular with checking out for physical goods and services within apps. This week’s additions include Apple Pay in-app checkout support on iOS with Ticketmaster, LoungeBuddy, and more. Ticketmaster, which provides you with the ability to buy and sell tickets to “thousands of live music, sporting, arts, theatre, and family events”, updated its app recently to version 1....

Apple has just released a new app into the App Store called iTunes Movie Trailers, which allows users to view trailers for upcoming movies and movies in theaters. Along with trailers, the app displays movie release dates and more importantly movie showing times, as you can see below. The Top 25 section of the app lists the top trailers played. Reports regarding an Apple web-based TV service began to circulate in February of this year, with more details emerging last month. A new report from The Street now claims that Apple and Disney are currently in talks over what specific Disney-owned channels will be available on the service. It’s worth noting that Disney CEO Bob Iger is also on Apple’s Board. The report claims that Apple does not want to offer all of Disney’s channels on its service in an effort to keep the subscription price down for customers....

The full rollout of Apple Pay on the New York metro system has been delayed due to the coronavirus, says the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA first offered contactless card payment, which supports Apple Pay, for limited lines back in May of last year. Progress since then has been slow, however, and there have been some glitches along the way … More than a year later, only around half of MTA subway stations have contactless payment pads....

Some of the more significant changes will come later this year. Apple plans to alert users more quickly when an unwanted device may be traveling with them and also plans to make it easier to find those devices with louder tones and precision finding. With precision finding, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 users will be able to see the distance and direction to an unknown AirTag when it is in range....
