Apple today has released the fourth developer preview of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. The operating system carries the build number 15A226f. Two weeks ago, the company pushed the third beta build to developers after initially introducing the operating system at WWDC last month. Beta 3 brought about a variety of minor changes, including changes to Mission Control, the Photos app, and the Calendar app. In addition to allowing developers to test El Capitan, Apple is also offering public beta of the operating system and will also make it available to all retail employees to try....

Update: iOS 13 beta 6 and iPadOS 13 beta 6 are now available alongside watchOS 5 beta 6 and tvOS 13 beta 6. No macOS Catalina beta 6 yet. Apple is releasing the sixth developer beta version of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 (possibly alongside new seeds of watchOS 6, tvOS 13, and macOS Catalina) today. Apple’s public beta builds should follow at a later date after the latest developer beta has been tested in the wild....

Apple has issued a minor bug fix update to both AirPort Utility on OS X and on iOS. There has been much speculation about what led to the Apple/Qualcomm settlement at the eleventh hour. Did Intel tell Apple it was unable to deliver 5G modems by 2020? Did Apple reach its own conclusion that Intel wasn’t up to the job? Or was there some other factor at play that mysteriously led Apple to have a change of heart about a massive lawsuit centred on Qualcomm’s business practices, despite a long history of vehemently objecting to them … ?...

Apple has released iOS 14.2 beta 2 to registered developers, coming two weeks after the release of the first iOS 14.2 beta. Other new releases from Apple today include macOS 11 Big Sur beta 9 and watchOS 7.1 beta 2. iOS 14.2 beta 2 is available to developers via an over-the-air update in the Settings app. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep checking as it sometimes takes a few minutes to roll out to all registered developers....

Just after releasing iOS 6.1 beta 4 to developers yesterday, Apple has released iOS 6.0.2 to the masses this afternoon. The update is only for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini and seems minor, as the folks in Cupertino said the update simply addresses bugs including a Wi-Fi bug that has plagued many users. Apple has released iOS 8.1.2 as an over-the-air software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users running iOS 8. The latest release contains bug fixes for users as well as a fix for a problem regarding ringtones purchased from Apple being removed from devices. We’ll check out the software release for any significant changes or issues and update accordingly. Apple has released a third beta version of iOS 9.2 for developers and public beta testu users to try. The two previous builds of this operating system introduced support for AT&T’s new NumberSync system and changes to embedded Safari browsers that allow them to load all extensions. It also adds Arabic language support to Siri. The new build is available from the Software Update section of the Settings app on devices running a previous developer build, or from the Developer Center for those on a public release....

San Francisco-based Mission Motorcycles, a maker of high-end electric motorcycles, recently filed for bankruptcy amid financial troubles. In the filing, current CEO Mark Seeger said the company is so low on cash that it can’t afford to pay for an attorney for the bankruptcy process, but while recently talking with Reuters, former CEO Derek Kaufman dismissed the company’s lack of money and instead blamed Mission’s demise on Apple’s poaching of top engineers… Rumors are all but confirmed that Apple has been developing its own electric vehicle under Project Titan and Kaufman wouldn’t be the first person deploring Apple’s hiring efforts for the project....

Apple seeded its registered developers last night with a new version of Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. The software carries a build number of 11D46 and arrives just a week following the 11D42 build. Apple says that an ongoing outage is preventing some Apple Card users from paying their bill and accessing other features in the Wallet app on iOS. The outage started at around 8:45 a.m. ET. [Update: Resolved] Apple writes on its System Status webpage: It’s unclear how widespread this outage is, but Apple’s System Status tool indicates that “some users are affected.” Apple, unfortunately, doesn’t offer any information more specific than that....

Starbucks has long held the title of the most popular mobile payment platform in the United States. New data from eMarketer now shows that Apple Pay has surpassed Starbucks in the US as adoption of Apple’s platform continues to grow. Starbucks adopted mobile payments relatively early on, and incentivized users with rewards and features such as ordering ahead. As such, Apple Pay and other mobile payment platforms have largely been playing catch up with Starbucks until now....

[Update: Quartz India now reports that Apple has removed TikTok from the App Store in India.] Viral short-form video application TikTok is facing backlash from the government in India. Regulators are said to be concerned with some of the content found within TikTok, and the effects that content could have on children. According to a report from The Economic Times, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is requesting that Apple remove TikTok from the App Store in India....

Apple today released two videos on their official YouTube channel titled Real Stories — Apple Watch‚ documenting the lives of actual customers that were potentially saved by wearing an Apple Watch. The video series uploaded today comes hot off Apple’s latest watchOS update finally bringing ECG support to the Series 4. Apple has been making the press rounds this morning, with Jeff Williams featured on CBS This Morning along with Apple CEO Tim Cook speaking to TIME in a new interview....

Apple has seeded the fifth iOS 9.1 beta for developers and public beta testers. The new beta includes various bug fixes and improvements … we’ll let you know if there’s anything drastically new. The new seed comes less than a week after beta 4 as Apple comes closer to a public launch of iOS 9.1. iOS 9.1 includes new emojis, new wallpapers, developer support for Live Photos and iPad Pro / Apple Pencil compatibility, amongst several other changes....

A new report by Re/code gives some extra details about Apple’s future plans for its streaming service, Beats Music. A few weeks ago Apple was reportedly looking to push prices down, although specifics were not known at the time. Today, Re/code says that Apple wants to cut prices in half, from $10 a month to $5 a month. This would be part of a relaunch of the Beats Music service — exactly what a ‘relaunch’ entails is not yet known....

Last week, above. Today, below. The original iPad mini has quietly disappeared from Apple’s web site, and is no longer available to purchase new from the Apple Store. Introduced in October 2012, the first iPad mini established the industrial design that was subsequently used in the iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3, as well as the larger but otherwise nearly identical iPad Air and iPad Air 2. Apple notably continued to sell the 16GB iPad mini as an entry-level model alongside two of its sequels, dropping its price to $299 in October 2013, then $249 in October 2014....

Apple updated its online store this afternoon to display the iPhone 5 as no longer limited to two per customer. The unlocked version of the iPhone 5 was first released last week, with the limit stated on the purchase page, and, as MacRumors pointed out, dropping the limit most likely means that Apple is continuing to catch up with stock of the handset as the holiday season kicks into full swing....
