Apple has released the fourth OS X 10.11.4 public beta for non-developer testers. Public beta testers running the El Capitan pre-release can find the new software update through the Mac App Store. The latest public beta update follows the fourth developer beta of the same update earlier this week. Changes coming with OS X 10.11.4 include support for viewing and sharing Live Photos taken on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus through iMessage using the Messages app as well as the ability to password-protect items in the Notes app for the first time....

A week after KGI forecast that Apple would sell around 2.5M iPad Pros this quarter (down from far bigger numbers before launch), RBC Capital Markets has predicted a more conservative 1M per month, suggesting around 1.7M units this quarter. The company has also estimated that Apple’s average profit per unit is around $200. Whoever is right, Business Insider notes that even the more cautious forecast puts the iPad Pro on-track to exceed total sales of the Microsoft Surface tablet range within its first three months....

Apple earnings day is upon us, and with it we learn how the company performed since last quarter’s rare guidance revision. Apple forecasted revenue between $55 billion and $59 billion, down from $61.1 billion reported during the same quarter a year ago. Apple CEO Tim Cook made news at February’s shareholders meeting when he shot down a proposal from a representative from the National Center for Public Policy Research that would have required the company to disclose its expenses for its environmental efforts. To comply with US sanctions, Apple removed some Iranian apps from its App Store back in 2017 and one of them was Snapp, a popular ride sharing service in the country. However, at some point, the developers snuck it back in the App Store hidden within a music app called RadickRadio… It was discovered this week that while RadickRadio would work as a music service for those in the US and elsewhere when the app was used from an Iranian IP address, it would actually launch Snapp, an Uber-like ride sharing service....

After updating iWork for iCloud and its Mac and iOS counterparts, Apple has pushed out a new Safari update as well. The new version is 7.0.3 and contains mostly bug and security fixes. Apple has been beta testing this update with developers for the past few weeks. The two biggest parts of this update are changes to push notifications and the way URLs are handled. For users who don’t want to be asked about push notifications from any site, there’s now a checkbox in the notification preferences that disables them entirely....

Japanese Apple rumor blog Macotakara has a new report today indicating that the successor to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come in an all new color. The site says Apple will add a red casing color, joining the existing Black, Jet Black, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold options. Macotakara has a decent track record when it comes to reporting details about unreleased Apple products. It was the first site to say that Apple would remove the headphone jack with the iPhone 7....

Reader Beau Giles reports, “Apple Pay works anywhere there’s existing PayPass or payWave terminals – and in Australia we’ve got plenty of them…While Apple restricts cards to US issued cards, they do work with Apple Pay just fine elsewhere.” Beau notes that Apple Pay appears to be based on the region set on a user’s device and is not necessarily tied to an iTunes account (although it does offer the option to use a card on file through an Apple ID)....
