Japanese Apple rumor blog Macotakara has a new report today indicating that the successor to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come in an all new color. The site says Apple will add a red casing color, joining the existing Black, Jet Black, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold options.
Macotakara has a decent track record when it comes to reporting details about unreleased Apple products. It was the first site to say that Apple would remove the headphone jack with the iPhone 7.
KGI has previously reported that Apple will introduce three new iPhones in 2017. This would include one majorly redesigned ‘iPhone 8’ with OLED display and no physical Home Button, as well as two iterative updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Reconciling these rumors, it appears the Macotakara report is talking about the latter devices which it has dubbed iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
However, unlike KGI, Macotakara says that the 7s series would not include features like wireless charging or a glass casing. It would be a straightforward internal component update, moving from the A10 chip to the A11 chip, alongside the introduction of the red color option for the exterior.
KGI has recently said the opposite of this, indicating that wireless charging would be available on high-end and low-end 2017 iPhone models but the charger itself may not be bundled in the box.
The more-radical changes are expected for the premium iPhone 8 model, which will apparently feature an OLED display that wraps around the side of the phone. It has been described as bezel-less with the Home Button somehow integrated into the screen.
The new iPhone is expected to feature an all-glass body and distance itself from the plastic/aluminium design language of the last three iPhone generations, first introduced with iPhone 6.
