Finally, putting an end to all the speculations Apple Releases iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the most awaited device iPhone XR. The latter was earlier rumored as iPhone 9 and iPhone XC. The devices were released at the Gather Round Event at Steve Jobs Theater. This time the only catchy change that takes place is the new chipset which is the Apple’s A12 Bionic chip. It’s quite powerful and all the three iPhones sport this processor.
This is the first time Apple is bringing dual SIM support for its devices. Regular models will have a SIM with eSIM support. However, for China, separate iphone XS will be built with two physical SIM support inside one SIM tray.

The A 12 Bionic is a 7nm chipset that can perform 5 trillion operations per second. It comprises the 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and 8-core Neural engine. Honestly, there isn’t much difference between the three 2018 iPhones which are the successor to the last years’ iPhone X. The XS Max is only different for the massive 6.5 inches display it has to offer. Apple claims they have the most durable glass ever which the devices XS and XS max have on them. The XS comes in three color variants gold, silver, and space gray.
iPhone XS flaunts a 5.8 inch OLED display with 2436 X 1125 pixel resolution. Its bigger sibling the XS Max brings 6.5 inches OLED display called Super Retina Display with 2688 X 1242 pixel resolution. Apart from this difference both the devices share features such as 3D-Touch, tap to awake, Truetone display, HDR display, HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. Apple also claims great sonic experience with the new Stereo sound.
Both the flagships XS and XS max sport the notorious notch on the display. It contains the various sensors and enables Face ID unlock as well.
Both XS and XS Max has an IP 68 rating and protect from water or liquids like tea, beer etc. The device can withstand submerging in water up to 2 meters and till 30 minutes.
In the camera section, iPhone XS and XS Max bring a 12 MP wide-angle camera along with 12 MP telephoto lens on the rear panel with true-tone flash and optical image stabilization. On the front face, there is a 7MP camera. all the cameras on both sides come with portrait mode and advanced bokeh effect. You can adjust the exposure and depth field to which also changes the bokeh after you click an image. You can, of course, shoot dynamic videos of 1080p at 60FPS.
As Apple releases iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, it parts way with its last year’s successful device iPhone X(2017), iPhone 6s/6S Plus and iPhone SE. Discontinuing the iPhone X of 2017 is quite obvious. If the device continued it would create sales issue for the XS and XS Max. As there isn’t much change to the device except for a few hardware tweaks. Besides, iPhone X 2017 is still popular today and highly efficient. Again, ditching the iPhone 6S and its variants are understandable as they are quite old now. However, ditching the iPhone SE, which was one of the true budget Apple phones, left the user base in shock.
Now let us talk about the highlight of the Gather round event which is the iPhone XR.
The XR sports the Aluminum frame with glass on the back panel. It brings LCD display of 6.1-inch which the apple likes to call Liquid Retina Display. The OEM ditches the 3-D Touch on this device and replaces it with the Haptic Touch Engine. However, it packs other features like Tap to Awake, truetone display, wide color support which are on the iPhone XS.
Except for a few hardware changes like the display and camera, the iPhone XR is not much different than the iPhone XS and XS Max. iPhone XR runs on the A 12 Bionic chip the same as iPhone XS and XS Max with iOS 12 on-board.
The iPhone XR comes in five new color variants as you can see in the image below. Apart from the regular black and white finishes, new color variants such as blue, red, yellow and coral have been introduced.
The front display notch has the same components as of the XS and XS Max which is really an advantage. In the camera section, however, the Apple does cost cutting and packs a single lens rear camera which is also 12 MP wide angle shooter with advanced bokeh, portrait mode, and optical image stabilization. It gets support from the true-tone LED flash. The minus factor s the absence of the telephoto lens.

The storage configuration is variable as usual. iPhone XS and XS Max come in three storage variants starting from 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. This time the OEM is giving out around half a terabyte storage on its flagships which is the first time ever. The iPhone XR will be available in 64 GB,128 GB, and 256 GB variants.
Now comes the cost revelation part. The iPhone XS will cost $999 for the base variant and iPhone XS-Max will bear a price tag of $1099 for the base variant. iPhone XR will cost $749 for the base variant. iPhone XR Pre-order will start from October 19th and units will ship from October 26th. iPhone XS and XS max pre-order will begin on 14th September and it ships on 21st September.
In India, the iPhone XS and XS max will be available around 28th September. This will be interesting as Indian rupee value has hit an all-time low then the dollar so the 2018 iPhones may be quite burdensome for the pocket.
